Heat Pump Accelerator Platform

As the EU steps up its efforts to achieve climate neutrality, heat pumps have become a central part of the energy transition. As a key component of the European Green Deal and the REPowerEU plan, heat pumps offer sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for heating and cooling in buildings, industry and district heating networks. To accelerate the deployment of this important technology, the EU has launched the Heat Pump Accelerator Platform - a dynamic platform that aims to accelerate heat pump development across Europe.

Objectives of the platform

The Heat Pump Accelerator Platform is designed to bring together key stakeholders from across the EU to promote cooperation, knowledge sharing and best practices in sustainable heating solutions. The platform aims to:

  • Identify barriers to heat pump deployment and propose targeted policy measures to overcome them.
  • Building an EU-wide network for sustainable heating solutions, including both public and private actors.
  • Track policy developments at national level that affect the heat pump market.
  • Coordinate energy, industry, research and education strategies to strengthen heat pump deployment.
  • Solving barriers through the expertise of platform members to address practical and technical challenges.

Participate in the platform

The platform is open to a wide group of stakeholders, including:

  • National and regional authorities
  • Energy authorities and research institutes
  • Civil society organizations and financial institutions
  • Installers, contractors and network operators
  • Educational institutions and energy companies

As a member of the Platform, you will have the opportunity to contribute to policy development, analyze market data and identify training and innovation needs. Members also play an important role in developing a roadmap to improve the efficiency and sustainability of heat pumps.

Meetings and events

Over the period 2024-2027, the Platform will organize nine structured meetings, providing opportunities for members to share insights and contribute to the strategy work. The meetings will be held in Brussels and will offer a hybrid format, where participants can choose to participate online or in person. At least one face-to-face meeting per year is highly recommended to foster networking and collaboration.

On 14 November 2024, a webcast information session, organized by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), was held to introduce the platform and give interested parties an opportunity to learn more about its work and how they can contribute.

Background information

The Heat Pump Accelerator Platform is a collaboration between the European Commission, the European Heat Pump Association, and the research organizations VITO in Belgium and Fraunhofer ISE in Germany. The platform is based on a strong commitment from both the public and private sectors and plays a central role in meeting the EU's climate goals.

The future of sustainable heating

The Heat Pump Accelerator Platform represents a crucial step in the EU's drive to phase out fossil fuels and transition to clean, renewable energy sources. By bringing together experts, policy makers and other stakeholders, the platform works to overcome barriers and create a robust framework for future energy solutions.

For anyone who wants to help shape Europe's energy future, the Heat Pump Accelerator Platform is an opportunity to influence and contribute to sustainable and climate-smart development.
